The barley was the first cereal widely used in Mediterranean civilizations such as ancient Greece. The barley loaves, in fact, were the food of common accompaniment throughout the ancient world. The decoction used in the form of gargling helps in cases of angina, and of inflammations of the oral cavity. In summer is a refreshing food.
